Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) is a medical education institution based in Shantou, a coastal city in Guangdong Province, China. It operates across two sites: an original campus in the city’s historic centre and a modern facility integrated into Shantou University’s main campus in the northeastern suburbs. The college completed its new Medical Education Center in 2016—a 50,000-square-metre building designed by Herzog & de Meuron that houses classrooms, research laboratories, and specialised teaching spaces. Its Simulated Medical Center, established in 2002 and relocated to the new building, offers clinical skills training across nearly 6,000 square metres of hospital-style environments. SUMC focuses on life sciences and multidisciplinary medical education, with programmes delivered in partnership with the broader university. The college serves students preparing for careers in medicine and health-related fields within China’s eastern Guangdong region.
