Northeast Petroleum University (NEPU) is a national key university and a high-level key university of Heilongjiang Province, centered on engineering with programs in science, business administration, literature, law, and education. It was among the first universities authorized by China’s education authorities to admit international students. The main campus is in Daqing, Heilongjiang; a branch campus is in Qinhuangdao, Hebei. Daqing is a major oil city and home to China’s largest oil field (one of the world’s ten largest). Founded in 1960, NEPU has 2,216 staff and 23,025 full-time students. Programs: 64 undergraduate disciplines (8 national featured, 1 national comprehensive reform trial, 19 provincial); 4 postdoctoral research stations and 1 postdoctoral workshop; 21 doctoral disciplines; 89 master’s disciplines; professional master’s fields including MBA, social work, accounting, and engineering. In 2016, engineering entered the top 1% of ESI. Campus area: about 1,691,400 square meters (about 333,000 at the Qinhuangdao branch). Teaching and research equipment valued at over 500 million RMB. Campus network: 10 GB. Library: over 2,550,500 books. There is a national-level university science and research center. International partners include Technical University of Clausthal (Germany), Missouri University of Science and Technology and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (USA), University of Calgary (Canada), Waseda University (Japan), University of New South Wales (Australia), Kuban State Technological University and Tyumen Institute of Technology (Russia), Kangwon National University (Korea), and Oil & Gas University of Ploiesti (Romania), among more than 30 overseas universities
