As the name suggests, the E-Pal program is simply an organized pen pal exchange between students from different countries. The purpose of the program is to promote the exchange of ideas across international borders with emphasis on cultural understanding and sensitivity.
The program can be used as a supplement to any Chinese language class or as a precursor to a study abroad experience and/or establishing a sister school relationship. Students are encouraged to use their second language as much as possible in completing projects and assignments.
Students will connect with each other via a number of avenues including, email, msn, phone, and/or skype. We encourage the use of skype for communication. Skype is high quality video conferencing software that is free, easy to use, and just a quick download off the Internet (www.skype.com).
The value of the E-Pal program is tremendous. We’re bringing the other side of the world into the classroom and into the minds of students. Any language teacher will agree that learning a different country’s culture is extremely instrumental in acquiring the language. The E-Pal program accomplishes bringing that culture to students.
